Tour of the Zacambu and the Yavari RiverVisit the the beautiful Yavari valley with its stunning whitesand beaches, network of lakes and canals. Largely unspoilt jungle rich in wildlife. Calling in at the small towns of Benjamin Constant and Islandia en route Starting from the Cai in Leticia at 8.00 am. After a brief stop in Santa Rosa, Peru and Tabatinga ,Brasil for documentation we set off down stream on the Amazon towards the mouth of the Yavari River keeping a watch out for birldlife and dolphins (both Pink and grey species) which frequent these waters. There are several locations along the route where we often encounter dolphins and stop for a while. At around 0915 am we enter the Yavari river and head for Benjamin constant where we stop for 20 minutes to buy supplies in the market place. From Benjamin we continue on our journey upstream deep into the sparsely populated Yavari valley. At high water (Feb-Jun) our route takes us along narrow canals cut through the flooded forest , a real chance to see the deep forest close up. At low water (July-October) we stop at beautiful white sand beaches frequented by fish eating and wading birds, iguanas and the occasional river turtle. The beach is a great place to swim and fish for catfish. Here our guides make an impromptu barbeque and lunch is prepared. Next we move onto Zacambu a lake and wetland reserve where we can fish for piranhas (whilst lunch is prepared during low water season ) .We spend around an hour exploring the lake and shoreline at Zacambu before starting our return journey at 3 pm . The route of the return journey will be through the flooded forest at high water and at low water we travel downstream on the Yavari calling at Islandia, Peru for a brief tour (20-30 mins). Arriving back at Leticia around 5.30pm. ITINERARY SUBJECT TO SEASONAL AND OPERATIONAL CHANGES DUE TO WEATHER AND LOCAL CONDITIONS. Cost of tour COP480,000 up to 6 persons.
