AMAZON RIVER SAFARIStarting from the CAI in Leticia at 9 am. On leaving Leticia and a brief stop (10 mins)in Santa Rosa Peru for documentation we then set off up stream to la Milagrosa(entry COP5000 pp) where you can see the Giant Victoria Regia water lilies at there most impressive, there is also a short walk into the forest to see the Fertility tree. From La Milagrosa we travel upstream passing the Isla de Ronda and enter the Reserva San Juan . This is a flooded forest area for much of the year and where you can see orchids, bromeliads and other spectaular epiphites at there best. Scarlet Macaws nest in this area and can often be glimpsed or heard calling in the forest giants around the river.We stop a while to fish for Piranhas. We then return to the amazon heading out across the full width of the main chanel to Peru keeping a watch out fro Dolphins (both Pink and grey species) which frequent these waters. We then head downstream crossing past large Islands in the river to The Gamboa wetland . At Gamboa the bird life is very rich with many species of Parott including Scarlet Macaws together with a large number of birds of prey (fish eagles, cara cara, Caracoleros ) and also many water birds such tiger herons, night herons and egrets. We also has good populations of white mantle tamarin monkey (Saguinus nigricollis) squirel monkey pigmy marmosets and Sloths , all of which we see on occasions. After a short time fishing we set off back downstream to Santa Rosa where we can take a late lunch of the delicious Cebiche Iquitos style and experience the atmosphere in this extraordinary corner of Peru. We return to Leticia at 3.30 -4.00pm ITINERARY SUBJECT TO SEASONAL AND OPERATIONAL CHANGES DUE TO WEATHER AND LOCAL CONDITIONS.
