TRES FRONTERAS RIVER TOUR

A unique opportunity to see the Amazon River and compare the atmosphere and cultures in three countries in one day. Travelling the the Amazon and Yavari Rivers , Visiting Benjamin Constant, the predominantly Israelite settlement of Islandia Peru and Santa Rosa.

Starting from the Cai in Leticia at 9 am. On leaving Leticia and a brief stop in Santa Rosa, Peru and Tabatinga ,Brasil for documentation we then set off down stream on the Amazon towards the mouth of the Yavari River keeping a watch out for birldlife and dolphins (both Pink and grey species) which frequent these waters. There are several locations along the route where we often encounter dolphins and stop for a while. At around 1015 am we enter the Yavari river and head for Benjamin constant where we stop for a tour of the town. Benjamin a small town, is the regional capital of the Brazilian preifetur of Alenquer in the state of amazonas. At around 11.30 we set off up stream on the Yavari for the short journey to the settlement of Islandia ,Peru. Islandia is unique amongst the towns in the area having been built on land that floods in the wet season every year. All the buildings and walkways are raised on stilts to avoid the annual high water season which lasts 4-5 months. We can take lunch at one of a number of small restaurants in Islandia. At 1.30 pm we leave Islandia travelling towards the lago Saraiva , passing Indigenous settlements on the riverside and stopping for photo opportunities. Saraiva is a beautiful lake leading to an extensive wetland in the high water season , it rich in wildlife,good fishing and perfect for swimming.

At 3.30 we leave Saraiva travelling back to the Amazon and travelling down stream to Santa Rosa arriving around 4.30 . Santa Rosa has its own atmosphere, frenetic, loud at the weekends and laid back sleepy backwater for the rest of the week. There are bars, restaraunts and a few simple shops. Chance to try Cebiche, Iquitos style.

The tour finishes at 5pm you have the option to stay on in Santa Rosa and get one of the numerous water taxis back to Leticia or travel back with El motoro at 5pm
